Android L has reached about only 10% of the existing android devices, and, with that being said google is planning to roll out the next android version: Android M at it’s annual I/O developer conference. Although, Google hasn’t officially released any statements regarding this, but, the company appears to have accidentally let that detail slip via a post to Android for Work section of the event schedule — a bring your own device (BYOD) segment targeting enterprise users. The post — since pulled — read:
Android M is bringing the power of Android to all kinds of workplaces. This opens huge new markets for hundreds of millions of devices to workers at small business, deskless workers, logistics and warehousing jobs; all be (sic) empowered by adoption of Android devices at Work.
Android M Features
- Improved Notifications
Notifications will be unified across all computing platforms, i.e., a notification seen on a PC won’t appear on your smartphone or tablet
- Smart Home
Smart home feature takes control of all the connected devices using third party apps such as nest
- Android Wear
With Apple watches shipping more than 1 million units in 2015, Google will introduce new tech to fight back.
Will You Get Android M ?
With android Lollipop taking advantage of 64 bit processors and so on, chances of backward compatibility is less.
So your chances of getting android M are less.
Name For Android M
Google typically names its Android versions after a sweet or candy. In chronological order, we’ve seen Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat and Lollipop.
As for the Android M name, the most recent speculation suggests it will be Android Muffin, but other contenders are:
- Moon Pie
- Milky Way
- Milky Bar
- Mud Cake
We’re tipping Android Marshmallow right now because it strikes us as a more dreamy, colorful, Candy Land-style name in-keeping with the Jelly Bean/Lollipop trend.
So let’s wait and watch
