Micromax YU Yureka is certainly one of the most talked Smartphone. When Cyanogen announced to be partnering with Micromax in India, there has been a buzz around about the Smartphone. Micromax YU Yureka is first Smartphone to come with Cyanogen Mod. It is power packed with features. it has Snapdragon Processor, 5.5 inch HD display,13 Mega-pixel camera and much more. Micromax (through Cyanogen partnership) has come up with a new smartphone beast that is powerful, beautiful and yet a tough competitor to even the budget Chinese brands like Xiaomi and others. Whats makes this device so special? Lets find it out.
YU is one of the best designed Smartphone from micromax than its previous models. The design is simple, yet elegant. The front side is really smooth and back side feels steady and better than any Micromax Smartphone in this range. The screen is 5.5 inch so there isn’t much area around the screen. Sadly, there is not even a single mark of Micromax nor its logo on the phone or its package (The phone is neither designed nor developed by Micromax, its just a re branding). Looks like the partnered Yu company likes to keep only its identity on the phone. Yep, the Micromax logo has been replaced with Yu logo at the rear. The power and volume buttons are easily reachable on the sides, and the Micro-USB and headset sockets are on the bottom and top respectively. Beneath the rear shell you’ll find the removable battery, two Micro-SIM card slots and a microSD slot. One of the SIMs is hot swappable, but the other two slots can only be used if you pop the battery out.
Yu Yureka has got a 5.5 inches display and has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels offering pixel density of 220 pixels per inch. It has added a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to it to prevent it from the scratches. The display is sharp crisp and excellent. It has got nice viewing angles and sunlight visibility. The brightness levels are good and colors are rich and vibrant. The touch is responsive and feels really nice .
The Micromax Yu Yureka has 13 mega-pixel rear and 5 mega pixel front Camera. The cam
era quality is excellent and surprisingly better than any Smartphone in this range .Close-ups were quite brilliant, and in daylight, images were perfectly sharp at the focus point even at 100 percent zoom on a desktop monitor. The phone did take an unusually long time to autofocus and it was often simpler to tap the screen and force it. This also meant that subjects in motion were challenging to capture.
The Micromax Yu Yureka is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-core processor with 64 bit support. This is first low cost Octa-core processor from Qualcomm. The device run on Cyanogen Mod 11 OS based on Android Kit-Kat 4.4.2. During the Microm0ax Yu Yureka Review, the device was really fast running multiple applications at a time. It performed really good while gaming also. The Yureka seems to be able to match the Xiaomi Redmi Note in most situations – 3DMark gave the Redmi Note a slight advantage in the 720p Ice Storm test, but the Yureka stole the lead in the high-resolution Ice Storm Extreme test. Quadrant favoured the Yureka, with a score of 17,586 overall compared to the Redmi Note’s 16,083. Keep in mind that these scores apply to the original 3G-only version of the Redmi Note, which uses an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor and is not available anymore.
Software is one of the highlights of the Yureka. It was using slightly modified version of Android, which was neither as good as the pure (almost unmodified) version of Android used by Motorola, nor matched the features offered by software bundled with the Chinese phones.
Geeks familiar with Android’s history will know CyanogenMod. It is like the MiUI, which is used in Xiaomi phones, but one created by a community of geeks and now managed by a company based in the US. Through CyanogenMod, Micromax hopes to match what Chinese companies like Xiaomi offer.
The second problem that CynogenMod solves, albeit partially, is software support. It is rare to see a Micromax phone get software updates, let alone an OS update. But with CyanogenMod, it is expected that updates will be frequent and even OS updates, whenever required, will come. The CyanogenMod 11 is kind of a cross between the stock Android and something that has been completely overhauled. It offers a slightly modified users interface elements such as a different layout for quick settings or a different lockscreen. It also has completely different icons for common apps like Settings. There is provision for different themes and there are tons of options to customise the phone, if you are into that kind of thing.
But under the hood, it is mostly stock Android and if you have used an Android phone before, there won’t be any learning curve. The bloatware — unwanted apps such as YUniverse, which is actually Opera browser — are few.
Overall, we don’t find the CynaogenMod 11 and a handful of extra apps any worse or significantly any better than what we get on other phones. Sure, it looks slicker than what Micromax has pushed on its phones so far. But then the big deal about CyanogenMod, we hope, is the support for future updates and if that happens frequently and whenever required, CyanogenMod 11 is as good as the stock Android in terms of functionality.
The Micromax Yu Yureka has 2500 mAh battery which lasted almost a day.It offers connectivity options like 4G, 3G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth v4.0 and GPS.
SHOULD YOU BUY IT
If you are out in the market looking for a smartphone for less than Rs.10,000 we totally recommend the Yureka to you. At its MRP of Rs.8,999, it is one hell of a phone. In fact, it is as good as most of the Rs.20,000 you can buy in the market nowadays. As a product, the Yureka gets almost everything right. Considering its price, we can’t fault it in any major way on any of the product related points. In the Yureka, Micromax has built something really good. But what separates Motorolas of the world from desi brands is the aftersales service and quality control. But for now we can say that as a product, the Yureka delivers spectacularly. It is the best phone Micromax has come up with so far and it is totally worthy of its Rs.8,999 price tag.
